Genesis Invitational pays tribute to Tiger Woods’ late mother with these special red pins

The tributes continue for Kultida Woods.

Tiger Woods’ mother died on Feb. 4 at age 80, which was one of the reasons why Woods said that he was not ready to compete this week at the Genesis Invitational at Torrey Pines, an event he and his foundation host.

“I did my best to prepare, knowing it’s what my mom would have wanted, but I’m still processing her loss,” Woods said earlier this week in a statement.

During the first round, the Genesis honored Tida Woods by just using a simple, white flagstick on the seventh green at Torrey Pines South Course. The number seven and the color white, are both significant in Buddhism. Tida, a Thailand native, was a faithful Buddhist.

On Sunday, during the final round, players were urged to wear a special red pin that featured the Thai symbol for love. It was Tida who always told Tiger that red was his power color, which ultimately led to his black and red Sunday outfit.

Tiger was on the range early Sunday greeting many of the players in the final few groups, particularly his good friends Rory McIlroy and Justin Thomas.
