Fila Golf: Iconic brand is back in the game

July 21, 2011

The first name in Fila Golf was Tom Watson, who won't be the last name in Fila Golf, too.

The iconic brand that Watson once represented (he no longer is affiliated with Fila) had faded from view until Fersten Worldwide was granted the license to bring it back under designer Nancy Robitaille.

"We acquired the license about four years ago," she said from her Montreal office. "The head office gave us free rein to develop the collection as we saw fit."

It has five collections available, including the Autentico, inspired by Fila's Italian heritage, the company says, and featuring its "iconic core color pallette of Fila navy, Viva red and white.

LPGA star Stacy Lewis (shown here in the Dresden Striped Polo) is now the face of Fila Golf. Lewis won the Kraft Nabisco Championship in April.

"Stacy is a great fit," Robitaille said. "She's an All-American athlete, has a story and is really cute." Her story is how she overcame scoliosis and became a successful professional golfer.

Fila Golf apparel is available at green grass pro shops and at Amazon.com. In September, it will launch an e-commerce site.
