Collin Morikawa gets engaged to longtime girlfriend Katherine Zhu, continues to dominate life

December 02, 2021

With a win this week at the Hero World Challenge, Collin Morikawa can lock up World No. 1. But he's already won the week by locking up longtime girlfriend Katherine Zhu for life.

Morikawa, who is set to tee off just before 12:30 p.m. ET in the Bahamas on Thursday, announced on his Instagram account Wednesday night that he had asked Zhu to marry him. "My forever and ever, I love you," Morikawa wrote:

The two met in college, though not at the University of California, where Morikawa went. Zhu actually attended Pepperdine University in Malibu, where she was a standout on the women's golf team for four years. Following his PGA Championship victory at TPC Harding Park, Morikawa had this to say about his longtime girlfriend:

"I am very lucky to have her. Kat has been by my side through it all. She would hate me if I didn't say this, but I didn't start winning in college until she showed up in my life, so thanks Kat. Whenever she's there, it always just gets me away from golf. She knows how I'm feeling after golf, she's played collegiately, she knows golf can take a toll on you, whether it's a good or bad day. So she's on that same swing of if we're playing well or not well, but, yeah, I'm very lucky to have her. Having someone at dinner makes things a lot nicer than sitting down there at the hotel by myself."

Man, that's one smart 24-year-old. Congrats to the happy couple, and prayers up to Morikawa's competition. Now that Zhu is in his life forever, there are many, many more victories to come.
