Please Say Sike . . .

We hope (and pray) that this shocking Club Pro Guy announcement is all just an elaborate troll job

September 06, 2024

A member of Golf Twitter's Mount Rushmore appears to be hanging it up for good.

That is, of course, if you believe a man who runs a parody account—a legendary one, mind you—is being truthful when he writes to his following of over 300,000 on Twitter/X that he's "decided to pursue a career outside of golf." If he's being serious, this is a sad, sad day in golf:

In the video, which has garnered over 1.5 million views already, CPG, live from the back deck of his timeshare in Branson, Mo., says this will be his very last social media post. What follows next is three minutes of CPG at his absolute peak, featuring a shot at his general manager Chip Kennedy, who appears to be the one behind the "termination," as well as a number of accusations against him that may have led to said termination. It's a video statement well worth your time.

Now, the question is, is this just an elaborate troll job? Or, is CPG genuinely done with the Twitter game and he just managed to call it quits in the most CPG way possible? We guess only time will tell. Obviously, we hope (and pray) it's the former. And by the way, if it is, it's brilliant, because every single item on the "pro shop" section of CPG's website has sold out, from the Personalized Matamoros 4-ball flag to the C Flight Champ T-Shirt. Those are going to age like a fine wine.

Most folks seem to be taking it seriously, and have in turn begun pouring one out for this legendary social media figure. If this is the end, don't cry because it's over, wet your pants watching all these videos smile because it happened.
