Save for later

For the first time since 2008, the famed Skins Game will return on Black Friday. It will be an early morning affair, kicking off at 9 a.m. ET on Amazon Prime and filling what was previously an empty time slot on the Thanksgiving weekend sports calendar.

The man behind it all, Chad Mumm, joined us on this week's episode of The Loop podcast to discuss how it all came to be.

"I kept seeing moments go viral on social media from Skins games in the 1980s, so many iconic moments," Mumm said. "I was like, I want to bring it back."

Bringing it back on Thanksgiving weekend was important, as it ideally will now have a traditional spot on the schedule just like the old Skins Game did. Many of the new-age made-for-TV events have not been able to land on a singular date, which makes it harder to build an identity.

"For me growing up, Thanksgiving was always football, Charlie Brown, turkey and watching golf in the desert," Mumm added. "I feel like golf needs to land back on that Thanksgiving weekend."

From 9 a.m. ET until 1 p.m. ET on Black Friday, golf will have centerstage, and should ideally lead right into Amazon Prime's Black Friday football game between the Chicago Bears and Philadelphia Eagles. Not to mention a host of college football games beginning at noon. The Skins Game should serve as the perfect breakfast appetizer, provided anybody has any room in their stomachs left from Thursday.

During our full interview, Mumm also told us about a few of the new twists this Skins Game will feature, how the event ended up in Florida and the time Brent Musburger totally spoiled a Skins Game ending. Please, have a listen below, and like and subscribe to The Loop wherever you get your podcasts:
