Cameron Young WDs from PGA Tour's World Wide Technology Championship

Cameron Young, one of the favorites at this week’s PGA Tour event in Mexico, has pulled out of the event.

The tour announced Wednesday morning that the 2022 Rookie of the Year is no longer in the the field at the World Wide Technology Championship. No explanation was given for his departure.

Young is nearing the end of his third full season on the PGA Tour, a successful stretch that has likewise earned him the moniker of as the best player without a tour title as of yet.

After seven top-three finishes in his freshman campaign on tour—highlighted by a T-3 at the 2022 PGA Championship and runner-up at the 2022 Open—Young has slightly backtracked in his last two seasons, failing to make the Tour Championship in 2023 or 2024. He’s also watched his strokes-gained figure slide, going from 15th in 2022 to 74th last year down to 77th heading into this week.

However, Young is fully exempt for next season and, by reaching the second round of the FedEx Cup Playoffs in August, will be entered into all 2025 signature events.

Young will be replaced by Sean O'Hair in the field. Max Greyserman, Doug Ghim, Matti Schmid and Harris English are now among the event favorites with Young out.
