Tour pro lucky he didn’t break his wrist, instead hits crazy recovery from tree roots

It’s early in 2025 to have clinched best-shot-of-the-year honors on the PGA Tour. And given that he finished four back of winner Rory McIlroy at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am—who pulled off one hell of a shot of his own en route to victory—Cam Davis’s Sunday heroics on the 18th hole might not rank as the best shot of the day in some people’s minds. But we’re nominating this bad boy anyway, and we think you’ll be astounded by it as well.
Let’s set the stage: Davis had had an up-and-round day at Pebble, stringing together pars with a couple birdies tossed in. But those birdies weren’t easy to come by. Consider the one he made on the par-4 fourth hole. Davis’ approach shot looked like it was tracking well, only to carom off his playing partner’s ball leave an extremely delicate chip shot …
… that he of course holed.
Surely, though, Davis’ magic had run out by the time he got to the par-5 18th, where a wayward drive and a so-so second shot left his ball in the middle of a patch of roots at the base of the tree protecting the green. Difficult is one way to describe the shot that the Australian had to the green. Dangerous might even be more accurate. Any yet somehow he managed to do this:
Seriously, how the hell did he get that ball to spin back to the hole?!?
He made the three-foot birdie put to close out a three-under 69 and grab a piece of fifth place. And that no way in hell birdie was also worth nearly $100,000 with Davis moving into T-5.
