British Open 2026: European Tour winner reveals 'boozy lunch' with friends led to one of his tattoos

One of the nice things about the first couple days of a major championship is discovering stuff about lesser-known contenders. It's a content world, so when someone new pops up on the leaderboard, there's a race to learn things about them.

That's certainly the case at this week's Open Championship, where even guys who are off to solid starts are stopping by to chat with the media. Well, other than Bryson DeChambeau.

Anyway, that leads us to Jordan Smith. The 33-year-old Englishman shot an opening 68 and at the end of his Q&A with reporters someone asked him about one of his tattoos. And that's when the two-time DP World Tour winner gave a delightful answer. Here was the exchange.

Q. I notice this tattoo. I really like it. Is there a story behind it, the triangles?

JORDAN SMITH: There is actually. Me and two other friends, who are both caddies actually, we went into London and had a bit of a boozy lunch. One of them said there's a really well-known tattoo shop up there. So we all got the same thing, Googling tatties for three friends, and triangles kept coming up.

We all went and got the same thing and don't regret it.

OK then. Who hasn't had a "boozy lunch" with friends that ends with a questionable decision?

Anyway, as you can see from the photo above, it's a good-looking tattoo. And it's good to hear he has no regrats regrets. These things don't always end so well.
