Brian Campbell came into the Mexico Open at VidantaWorld having made just 10 cuts in 27 events, with no top-10 finishes. Still, Campbell was matter-of-fact when asked after the third round what a win would mean.

“It's what dreams are made of,” he said. “This is why I’ve worked so hard to get back here. I'm just enjoying the moment and going to continue to do what I've been doing this week tomorrow and see where it takes us.”

Where it took him was a wild ride to a career-changing victory, an improbable overtime win on the second extra hole over Aldrich Potgieter.

Improbable because Campbell’s tee ball on the second extra hole, the par-5 18th, was sailing well out of bounds when it struck a tree and bounced back into play. That allowed Campbell to hit a 3-wood second before staking a lob wedge from 68 yards that proved to be the game winner.

“That bounce, we’ll take it,” he told Golf Channel.

The LST is for players with faster swings who are looking to reduce spin, and it still maintains one of the highest ratings for stability on off-center hits. Allows faster swings to maintain ball speed without unwanted increases in trajectory or spin. A carbon-composite piece wraps into the back half of the crown to save mass that is repositioned low and forward of the other G440 models. A 29-gram adjustable weight in the rear perimeter fits into neutral, draw or fade positions. A redesigned interior portion of the hosel creates room for that area of the face to flex better while lowering the center of gravity. The head has a flatter lie angle than the G440 Max to reduce draw bias. The titanium-alloy face is thinner and more flexible to optimize ball speed across a broader area. The stock-length shaft is stretched to 46 inches to create more potential swing speed. MOI Rating: HIGH Top 5 in Performance, low- and high-handicaps 9, 10.5 degrees (with an eight-way adjustable hosel)

It was a birdie that matched his entire round, where fortitude was required as flashy play was relatively intermittent. Campbell was no exception, but he did pull off a 6-iron tee shot at 179-yard, par-3 13th to 12 feet and made the putt to take the outright lead. Although he was later caught by Potgieter, he was not passed at any point coming in.

Although he ranked 73rd in driving distance, Campbell was arrow-straight (save for the wayward driver on the playoff hole) with his 9-degree Ping G440 LST driver, missing just eight of 52 fairways. Campbell’s driver has an actual loft of 10.1 degrees with a 45.25-inch Fujikura Ventus Black 6x shaft.

All of which led to a not-so-matter-of-fact win for a matter-of-fact guy.
