Ben Griffin puts on Twitter Masterclass on Memorial Day following Colonial win
It's a weekly tradition during a Ryder Cup year - literally just saying "[insert recent PGA Tour winner] . . . Ryder Cup?" In other words, inserting any player with a pulse into the American or European lineup nearly five months before the event at Bethpage Black.
The latest player to thrust himself into that mix is Ben Griffin, who just picked up his second PGA Tour victory and his first invididual PGA Tour win at the Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial. With the victory, Griffin jumped five spots in the U.S. Ryder Cup standings, from 18th to 13th, which puts him firmly in the captain's pick conversation.
Up ahead in eighth is Andrew Novak, the guy Griffin won the Zurich Classic of New Orleans with last month. When that happened, it was a simply funny joke to say Team Griffin and Novak could beat anybody at Bethpage Black. Now, it's a very real possibility, as our old pal Brendan Porath of The Fried Egg pointed out with a hilarious meme of Timothee Chalamet cheering on the New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference Finals. Griffin came across it and couldn't resist:
You're thinking it. They're thinking it. We're all thinking it. Griffin-Novak off first on Friday morning, who says no?
Earlier on Memorial Day morning, Griffin woke up and sent this bad boy in celebration of his lastest victory. A MDW Twitter Masterclass:
As we found out on two separate editions of The Loop podcast, both Griffin and Novak are A+ talkers, tweeters, and professional golfers. They'd both be welcome additions at the Ryder Cup. Two fun-loving guys who don't seem to take themselves too seriously. The N.Y. crowd would be fully in their corner.
