Aon Next 10 and Aon Swing 5 Return for Second Year on PGA TOUR
Editor's Note: This article is written in partnership with Aon.
Both the Aon Next 10 and Aon Swing 5 are returning for their second year on the PGA TOUR, providing TOUR players with the opportunity to play their way into this season’s Signature Events. After a successful debut last year, these eligibility pathways – which highlight exceptional performance and strategic decision making – have quickly become a key part of the TOUR’s competitive landscape. These programs give trending golfers a chance to qualify for Signature Events and compete alongside the world’s top talent, providing fans with fresh faces and compelling stories, while also opening doors for players to advance their careers.
How does that work? The first 50 spots in each Signature Event field are set based on prior year FedExCup standings, but the next 15 spots are now reserved for the Aon Next 10 (the top 10 players not already exempt in the current year’s FedExCup standings) and the Aon Swing 5 (the top five non-exempt FedExCup points earners for the full-field event swing leading up to that Signature Event). This ensures that 15 players – some of whom are not yet household names, but are playing exceptional golf – have the opportunity to compete against the top players in the most challenging settings.
In 2024, the Aon Next 10 and Aon Swing 5 proved to be significant for players and the competition overall. “The Aon programs got me into the elevated events that I didn’t have the chance to play in before,” says Ludvig Åberg, who has quickly become one of the most exciting names on TOUR. While Åberg’s rise to the top was expected, his inclusion in the Aon Next 10 is a testament to how the programs can help rising stars fast track their success.
Also included in that list were both Jake Knapp and Stephen Jaeger. Through the Aon Next 10 and Aon Swing 5, Jaeger specifically secured spots in six Signature Events, with both he and Bezuidenhout advancing to the FedEx St. Jude Championship for just the second time in their respective careers.
Setting our sights on the first few events of 2025, we are already seeing some remarkable storylines play out. Both Maverick McNealy (2nd place) and Patrick Rodgers (T3) qualified for the Genesis Invitational via the Aon Next 10, while the Aon Swing 5 is topped by Sam Stevens, Daniel Berger and Michael Kim. Stevens’ clutch final-round short-game play at the Farmers Insurance Open earned him the top Aon Swing 5 spot for that swing, as well as a spot in the AT&T Signature Event at Pebble Beach, where he finished 17th. At the WM Phoenix Open, Berger and Kim both vaulted up the Aon Swing 5 standings to secure spots in the Genesis Invitational Signature Event in San Diego – Berger by besting the field in strokes gained tee-to-green and ranking third in driving accuracy, and Kim by making birdie on three consecutive back-nine holes in the final round and having the best scrambling percentage of any player to make the cut.
As impressive as Berger and Kim were at the Genesis this past weekend, finishing 12th and 13th respectively, it was Åberg who captured the event and now leads the FedExCup standings. This latest achievement highlights the tremendous value of the Aon Next 10 and Aon Swing 5.
The battle to crack the Aon Next 10 and Aon Swing 5 is only getting more intense, with five Signature Events yet to come. For real-time Aon Next 10 and Aon Swing 5 standings, follow along at pgatour.com/aon-better-decisions to see who's securing their spot in upcoming Signature Events.
