    Watch a Masters practice round and it’s not always apparent golfers are preparing for one of the most stressful weeks of the year.

    Players drop balls and hit chips to different spots. They study the break of different putts. The problem is when this sort of preparation comes at the expense of the other kind. The performance coach Jason Goldsmith says there are occasions while watching practice rounds that he has to remind his players to return to their pre-shot routine. Because those are the habits that come in handy when the tournament starts and you’re back to playing just one ball.
