The USGA got real cheeky with its U.S. Am pairings.
The USGA has always had a little fun when making pairings for their championships, most famously (or infamously) at the 2014 U.S. Open at Pinehurst, where a controversial threesome of Kevin Stadler, Brandon de Jonge and Shane Lowry were dubbed the "heavyweights" pairing. That one was, perhaps, a little too cheeky.
There's nothing controversial about the U.S. Amateur pairings, which were released on Wednesday, for the stroke-play portion of the event at Merion next Monday and Tuesday. But there are some very clever groupings:
Another threesome that didn't make my tweet above is the trio of Jason Shwartz, Travis Woolf and Kyle An, a play on the Kelce family (Jason, Travis and Kylie). The Golf Twitter Burnerverse ought to love that one.
