The caution in John Bodenhamer’s voice on Wednesday proved warranted on Thursday
when the play was suspended for fog at 7:05 a.m., just a half hour after the first round began. The USGA chief championship officer had warned that Thursday’s forecast would make uninterrupted play a long shot, even with all the precautions the USGA decided to implement due to the windy, rainy forecast.
