Matt Fitzpatrick switched Bettinardi putters for the Genesis Scottish Open and likely the British Open at Royal Birkdale for an interesting reason: he wanted a sole that wouldn’t slip at address. Fitz’s previous Bettinardi blade had a blank, smooth sole that can slide when the putter is set down at address on the fast, firm surfaces often found abroad. To combat that issue, Bettinardi built a backup with its hallmark “honeycomb” sole pattern, producing a textured, gritted sole that grips the turf and holds the putter still at setup. Fitzpatrick ranked 12th in strokes gained/putting at the Genesis with the new flat stick.
