There are countless metrics for mid-handicap golfers to track if they want to improve, but a suggestion from stats guru Mark Broadie might be a worthwhile place to start.
In the most recent episode of the Golf Digest video series, Ask The Expert, Broadie emphasized approach shots as an area many golfers overlook, and provided guidance on how to measure their progress.
“I would track your median leave,” Broadie said. “So, how do you do that? Well, you hit shots or record during your round shots from, say, 125 to 175 yards, and you record how far away wereyou from the pin. Sort them from closest to furthest, and you take the middle value, and that's your median leave from150 yards. and then you compare it to a table of benchmarks and you want to see where do you rank compared to your comparison group.”
