While “Aloha” meant good-bye for the Sony Open on the PGA Tour, it’s now a hello for the PGA Tour Champions.
Officials with the senior circuit announced Wednesday they are adding the event, renamed the Sony Championship Hawaii, to its schedule for 2027. Waialae Country Club in Honolulu, home of the PGA Tour stop since 1965, will once more serve as host, with the tournament being played Jan. 14-16, 2027 and offering a purse of $3 million. Officials noted in April when they announced the two PGA Tour stops in Hawaii would be going away that Sony and Waialae could find a new home together with the 50-and-older set. While no formal announcements was made, sources say that the PGA Tour Champions will play its annual Mitsubishi Electric Championship the following week.
