If Rory McIlroy wasn’t “hot” already because of the temperatures at the FedEx St. Jude Championship on Thursday
—feels like numbers were around 110—the final three holes of his opening round. Playing for the first time since the Open Championship at Birkdale, the Northern Irishman went bogey, bogey, double bogey to close at TPC Southwind and post a four-over 74, leaving him T-67 in a field of 69. The 74 was the second highest score that McIlroy has shot all year on tour. Early in the week, he told our Luke Kerr-Dineen that he was working through some feels on the driving range.
It would appear there’s more work to do.
