Can the U.S. captain Brandt Snedeker find some sort of confidence and help his team find some late magic to make a comeback from its 10½-7½ deficit? Will the pressure of breaking a 10-match winless streak finally bubble up for International captain Geoff Ogilvy and his squad? It promises to be an interesting afternoon at Medinah, but there’s one stat that I can’t keep thinking about as I consider which way I think things will play out. During Saturday’s double session, the American led 91 holes in the eight matches, while the Internationals led in just 15. And yet, the Americans only managed to trim the Internationals lead by one point from the start of the day to the finish. Closing out matches will be critical if the Americans are to turn things around, but so far this week (and especially on Saturday), they’ve shown no signs of having that gear.
