It's storm season in many parts of America right now, including Cincinnati, Ohio, where one man almost found out in the worst way imaginable that you should never mess with lightning on the golf course this past weekend. Check out this absolutely insane video:
Chris Schiavone, the man behind the camera, originally posted the video to his Instagram account with the caption "1 in a 1,000,000, they say, very lucky and blessed, lightning is no joke." In other words, Schiavone lived to tell this tale, and he cleared it up with many of the commenters that the umbrella that can be seen in the video was covering his golf clubs from the rain. Still, having the umbrella out at all, and standing underneath a tree, were two crazy decisions.
The craziest decision of all? Still being out on the course. I wrote about this very topic in a "Stupid Golf Problems" column recently at the request of a reader named Paul Gross who is a meteorologist. Gross told me there's not enough awareness about the danger of lightning on a golf course, and he pointed to an interesting theory as to why - because there aren't any videos of anybody getting struck. Mere weeks later, we have this one. Eerie stuff. Please, go read some of Paul's key tips for handling this situation here, and remember that no round of golf is worth possibly losing your life over.
