Kristoffer Reitan won last week's Truist Championship and promptly changed Ping drivers.
In most cases, an equipment change the week of a major championship would be a cause for concern. But Reitan didn't exactly have a choice. During Monday's practice round at Aronimink, the Norwegian noticed something seemed off after hitting a drive on the par-4 fourth hole.
Upon closer inspection, Reitan found a crack had formed on the face of his 9-degree Ping G440 Max, rendering the driver non-conforming for the PGA Championship.
On one hand, it's unfortunate to lose a club that played a role in your first PGA Tour win. The silver lining is that Reitan lost the club during a practice round, and not down the stretch on Sunday at Quail Hollow when it could've made things even more interesting. Potential disaster averted.
