Jake Knapp's thumb injury is keeping him from playing in the PGA Championship.

He officially withdrew Monday, paving the way for Tom Hoge to get into the field at Aronimink. Knapp hasn't played since the RBC Heritage, where he tied for 74th place. He was 11th at the Masters a week earlier.

When Knapp withdrew from the Cadillac Championship two weeks ago at Doral, that allowed Kristoffer Reitan to get into the field, where he tied for 14th place. Reitan double bogeyed the last hole there, thinking he'd not qualify for the Truist Championship, but it actually moved Alex Smalley into the Aon 10 and opened a spot for Reitan to play and, ultimately, win in Charlotte.

As for the PGA, Kevin Yu, Mac Meissner and Tony Finau are now the next three alternates.
