Professional golf is littered with high-tech devices promising instant improvement.

The Grasp SPG (Smart Putting Gate) has the potential to deliver. On a quiet Tuesday afternoon at the Houston Open, PGA Tour winner Ben Griffin rolled putts with the portable device—a high-speed camera system captures a face-on view of the putter at impact, along with speed, line and impact data as it rolls through the gate—stopping to analyze the numbers: "The camera allows me to see my stroke and how the ball is rolling," he said. "I'm also seeing start lines and speed in real-time. It's all the info you'd want out of a putting technology. We haven't seen anything on tour—outside of SAM PuttLab—like this." The unit reduces the guesswork during a putter testing session, providing visual confirmation and real-time data that can help a pro determine if a new wand benefits their stroke.
