Review
“Water's Edge CC is located in Penhook, VA on Smith Mountain Lake. The course has bent grass greens and bluegrass fairways. The greens were receptive and rolled true. The fairways were fairly firm with decent run out. Only about 4 holes bordered the water. The course has nice elevation changes. The 4 Par 3s varied in length and direction - 3 of 4 has water in play. The short down hill 15th is an excellent Par 3 with water left and short. The 4 Par 5s are all good holes. The short doglegged (DL) right first hole has reasonable risk/reward and can be a very good scoring hole. The other 3 Par 5s are all between 550 to 565 yards. The up hill DL left 13th has excellent risk/reward and uphill DL right 17th requires a strong tee shot. The Par 4s vary in length and direction - the up hill 8th plays much longer than the yardage and the DL right 9th has excellent risk/reward and a challenging green. On the back 9 the uphill DL right 16th is very challenging as is relatively flat DL left 18th. While this is course is located in a lakefront residential development, the homes do not infringe or take away from the golf course."
