Overview
This was Tom Doak's first project after completing Pacfiic Dunes at Bandon Dunes Resort. The Red Raider course was created from a flat, rectangular cotton field, but Doak's team transformed the land by moving 1.3 million yards of topsoil to create a stunning setting with incredible movement and natural-looking features. The result is a surprising amount of elevation changes for West Texas with wide fairways, factoring in the often-present wind, but deep bunkers and complicated green complexes, providing a challenge to better players while being playable for all levels.

Review
“Large rectangular site, once flat but totally manufactured with rolling terrain, moderate elevation changes, wide fairways, difficult narrow, deep bunkers, and complicated green complexes. Wind is nearly always a factor. Excellent variety of shots with routing using all points of the compass well. A challenging course from the back tees but playable by nearly all from the proper set of tees."

“Lots of contour and elevation changes created for what is a very flat area of Texas. A ton of intrigue for a course at this price point."

“Given the relatively flat and non-descriptive location of the Rawls Course, Tom Doak did one of his best and most creative design jobs at the Rawls Course (similar to Commonground in Denver). Like many of Tom’s greens, the slopes on many of the Rawls Course greens can make short pitch shots and putting very difficult. The best holes are the par-4 8th, 12th and 14th holes."
