Overview
River Oaks Country Club was originally designed by Donald Ross in 1923 before undergoing renovations by Rees Jones in 1990 and then by the Fazio design group in 2015. The course is located outside of Houston and is home to open fairways built along the muddy riverbanks of the flowing Buffalo Bayou. With holes routed across high and low elevations, the course features a unique mix of undulating and challenging riverside approach shots. Hurricane Harvey removed gigantic swathes of trees in 2017, which allowed the club to reroute holes to interact more with bayou and lowland areas, resulting in the creation of new holes. The most notable additions came at the par-3 third, played to a peninsula green and at the par-3 17th (formerly a par 4), now played over an intimidating hazard.

“The most exclusive Blue Blood Country Club in Houston and I was not disappointed. One would expect that the conditions and aesthetics would be top notch and I was blown away of the course Fazio redesigned in 2015 in the heart of Houston along the bayou. It is hard to imagine how flat Houston is but still be able to get the elevation movement through the course. A really well done redo putting it in the top courses in Houston."

“Very upscale 'old money' Country Club in Houston's southwest district. Great test of golf and fun to play. The have host several USGA Qualifiers and a couple state championships. A couple holes have two greens or alternate teeing areas to accommodate playing 18 holes when a bayou which used to floods once in a while. If you know a member, get an invite, you'll love the course."

“This is the most exclusive country club in Houston so as you would expect the service and amenities are fantastic. The golf course is very good especially after a recent remodel done by Fazio. The conditioning is excellent as well"
