“Midland Country Club is a course on a dead flat piece of land that is designed to be played in the wind. The fairways are wide and the greens are large enough to account for wind, and the designer did a good job of factoring wind direction into the characteristics of individual holes. It is brutally long from the back tees and would beat up the best golfer from there on a windy day. Some of the greenside bunkers have long lobes that extend 40 yards or more from the center of the green, but all greens have at least one unguarded side to allow for running approach shots. This feature, however, results in a “sameness” to the round, and the relative paucity of water features coupled with the flat land and uninteresting backdrops results in a round that is not especially memorable. That being said, the 4-hole finish is strong, and some of the best greensites were saved for the end of the round. This course looks like a links but does not play like one (given the Bermuda grasses), nor does the design try to emulate one."
