Overview
This municipal course southeast of Nashville received a beautiful, economical renovation in 2024 from architect Nathan Crace. The efficiently routed course, first opened in 1985, plays primarily within a lovely horseshoe bend of the West Fork Stones River with holes bordered by mature hardwoods and natural native areas. Par fours at four and seven set up with tee shots over the river, and the 12th and 16th holes share a St. Andrews-like double green. Crace’s work included the reconstruction and relocation of bunkers along with the installation of Better Billy Bunker liners. He expanded and recontoured the green surfaces to capture more hole locations and regressed them with PRIZM zoysia. He also added new back tees to take the yardage over 7,200 yards and revamped the practice area creating more teeing space and a private lessons area. Best of all, the work was completed for less than $2 million, a fraction of what most private clubs spend for similar work.

“Course is located in Murfreesboro, TN. Course recently changed greens from bent to prism zoysia. The durability of this grass will serve the course well due to high traffic, heat and humidity. The greens are very firm and roll true. The course also recently installed Billy Bunkers which was a clear upgrade. The bermuda fairways were firm and had good roll out. The bermuda rough played very difficult around the greens. The course had very limited elevation change. But, still managed to have some very good holes. The short Par 4 11th is doglegged right around water that has great risk/reward. The Par 4 1st is also a very good hole - a doglegged right around water to a slightly elevated green. The 1st and 11th have very good shot options as does the doglegged right Par 5 2nd hole - a cross bunker and trouble right makes for good risk/reward. The two long Par 5s (#6 & #14) are solid holes, but risk/reward is limited. The Par 3s are solid, but seem to play similar. Also, liked the doglegged left Par 4 4th that requires a precise tee shot."

“Nothing special here, but a convenient place to play and the staff was very friendly. I found the design pretty repetitive and not very challenging."

“Bunkers and greens renovated in 2024. Good location and challenging placement of bunkers. Zoysia greens were nice and firm with decent pace. Hole 14 is the standout. Slight left to right dogleg with fairway sloping right to left to the creek. Approach guarded by hazard crossing short, large bunkers right and large tree creating great visual and character."

“Nice layout. Greens are average but the undulations make them challenging. Above average practice facility."
