“The design features many “Donald Ross” greens that are pushed up and steeply sloped. Not a lot of run-up shot options, but there is a lot of risk-reward if chasing pins. Being short-sided is death. The middle of the course features several long, difficult par 4s with a lot of elevation change. The greens were firm and fast -- any putt from above the hole was very challenging. The greens have probably the same amount of slope as they did a hundred years ago, but the greens are much faster now, so three putts are inevitable."

“Another interesting Ross design in the typical Philadelphia valley style landscape. The use of the elevation changes requires thoughtful shot positioning for a few blind approaches to the greens. The bunker edges have softened over time but are very well placed. The layout suffers a little as many holes seem to run back & forth with little variation in direction. The Union League is spending some money on this property and it will be interesting to revisit in a few years."
