Overview
Westhampton Country Club flies under the radar in the golf-rich mecca of the Hamptons, but in any other area, this Seth Raynor design would stand out. With massively undulating greens, many template holes and water vistas, Raynor’s routing is stout—providing plenty of interesting shots despite the relatively flat land thanks to his use of mounds, bunkers, water features and contours.

“If Westhampton were anywhere but the crowded golf scape of Long Island, it would be much more widely known. The golf course is set on a piece of flat land that flows through residential neighborhoods, hardly the parcel that golf architects dream of. That Raynor was able to turn it into a memorable and strategic golf course is a huge testament to his ability. Conditions are amazing, some of the firmest turf you can find in the USA. With flat land, bouncy ground is a must for strategic golf and it’s perfect here. The fairway bunkering placement is thoughtful and strategic, you constantly have to think about what side to aim for and what bunkers you want to risk carrying. Thanks to the firm turf, hitting the fairway is a huge bonus. The greens have great contour and missing on the correct side matters. Thanks to the varied green surrounds, the player needs to use a myriad of short game shots to score. The routing is a bit confined due to the housing, but it flows well and never feels like a residential course."

“Raynor took a relatively unremarkable piece of land with little ocean views and created a sporty, varied track. Some excellent templates exist - particularly the third (punchbowl), the seventh (redan), and the seventeenth (biarritz) - with the punchbowl being one of the better ones I've seen. Incredibly fun place to play."

“Fun course to play. Greens are very tricky; windy off the water requires good ball striking. Overall a nice walking course and enjoyable layout."
