Overview
Montreux Golf and Country Club debuted in 1998 and was immediately named as the host of the PGA Tour’s Reno Tahoe Open, which it hosted through 2019. The Jack Nicklaus design sits at the base of the Sierra Nevada Mountains just outside of Reno. The private 7,500-yard golf course rises and falls over steep terrain, surrounded by dense forests of pine trees. Montreux plays as a classic Nicklaus design as open driving areas are guarded by over 70 intimidating bunkers, and raised putting surfaces force accurate approach shots. Elevated tee boxes throughout showcase the stunning vistas of the surrounding landscape, dotted with natural creeks and native vegetation. The highlight at Montreux Golf and Country Club is the penultimate hole, the par-4 17th with a 138-foot drop from the tee box to the below fairway, showcasing the best view on the property.

“Wait until the 17th hole...dramatic 138' drop from tee box to fairway, with Galena Creek winding through it! A potentially rewarding hole near the end of the round!"

“Mountain tree-lined course located at an elevation ranging from 5,600 feet to almost 6,000 feet at the base of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. This tree lined course follows the natural terrain and features elevation changes throughout, water features and well-manicured fairways, greens and bunkers. The elevation of the course impacted club selection by as much as 10% requiring the player to accurately assess shot distances and carry. When played fairways were firm and fast. Greens were firm, fast (running at approx. 12) and receptive to well struck approach shots. Putting accuracy was challenged by the surrounding mountains and valley. Excellent hole variety with each hole distinctive with no two being similar. Great variety of short, medium and long holes moving both right and left and up and down hill. Risk reward shot opportunities were available on many of the holes. Overall, enjoyable and challenging course to play. Required the player to use a variety of shots."
