Overview
Located on Santee Sioux Nation land, just a few miles from the South Dakota and Nebraska border, is Tatanka Golf Club at Red Feather Hill. The course originally opened in 2015 and was designed by the team of Paul Albanese and Chris Lutzke in close partnership with the Santee Sioux Nation. While working on the project, the designers were educated about the local Native American culture, specifically developing and understanding the need to reflect an intense bond with the natural environment. This is reflected in fairways and greens that appear to naturally tumble over the sandhill-esque landscape, once with intense vegetation and thickets of old trees, sometimes giving sight to Tatanka, the Dakota word for buffalo.

“Tatanka Golf Club is a fascinating and at times surprising and unconventional course set on beautiful, hilly terrain in northeastern Nebraska. It’s a rollicking trip mostly up and down hills through the native grasslands on greens that are as close to perfect as you are likely to ever play. There are double greens, greens that slope in all directions, greens with ledges and multiple tiers, and a Biarritz. The course plays hard…much harder than the listed yardage…with 4 demanding par 3s (unfortunately with respect to layout variety, all roughly the same length). However, some of the shorter par 4s and 5s present birdie opportunities and a smart player who putts well can navigate the layout. The reasonable drive from Omaha and Sioux City makes this a must-play venue for a one-day golf outing or buddy trip through Nebraska."

“Really enjoyable course, now matured nicely. Greens putt so true and multiple shot options available as approach and chipping. Better than expected."

“Hidden gem worth visiting. Really worthwhile course with a fantastic collection of par 3’s and risk reward par 4’s. Excellent elevation changes creating reachable par 5’s depending on the prevailing wind. Course has some holes in protected valleys so the wind is muted a bit in those areas. Greens were smooth and running very fast, and overall conditioning was surprising. You wont even notice the rough edges on this one, because at its core is pure golf."
