Overview
A previous Best in North Carolina course on Golf Digest’s biennial list, the Currituck Club is a good semi-private Rees Jones design on the Currituck Sound. Jones incorporated the natural features—sand dunes, woodlands and wetlands—in strategic ways to challenge the better player, but there are options for the more resort type player.

“The northern tip of North Carolina's Outer Banks is a great place for 18-holes. That location is enough to make The Currituck Club fun and entertaining to play. This semi-private club is essentially a resort course serving vacationers who own or lease homes nearby. "They're away from everybody else on the Outer Banks, " said a local, "So they have a captive audience." Rees Jones designed The Currituck Club. At 5814-6885 yards, it winds through sand dunes, woodlands, wetlands, forests and homes, with wonderful views of the Currituck Sound. The course hasn't any bad holes and plays with a good rhythm. It does require strategic awareness and accuracy, and can intimidate a casual or aspirational player choosing the wrong tees. In places, built-up greens with steep slopes turn small misses into big ones. The most memorable example finishes your round. In front of 18th green, severe artificial mounding could double as a bicycle jumping circuit built for The X-Games. Favorite hole? The 158-200 yard, par-3, 6th plays parallel to miles of wetland waterways. Most shots require a forced carry over the marsh, but Jones did provide a subtle, strategic bail-out route to their left. The aesthetics are beautiful at sunset."
