“Conditioning was an issue on the greens."

“The course was odd in the way that doglegs and curves in the hole limited what players could try. Instead of adding options to the player, the player was often forced to lay up (off the tee and even from the fairway) because trees or water features limited where the player could play. So, even if the player had the length to reach a par 5 in two, the prudent play was a short layup shot even from the fairway because the trees or water features were in the way. Often off the tee on doglegs, the player would need to ideally hit less than driver to be in the center of the dogleg. I did like the way that some back tees had more difficult angles than the more forward tees. For example, the long par three 8th had a set of tees that required the player to play over the marsh wetlands and the other tees had a different angle with land short of the green. The distance from the back tee to the second tee is only 220 vs 215, but the level of difficulty of the shot was significantly more difficult because of the angle. Conditioning in early March could have been better, with the greens having some issues with true rolls."

“A really fun course to play. They also have a great staff in the shop."

“Shell Landing offers a course that gives a variety of topography's during the round. From low country marshland holes to undulating piney woodland holes and in between. The design flows nicely with in length, direction, uphill and downhill. Well worth the visit even if that requires a drive!"

“A nice course through the woodlands and marshes of southern Mississippi. Lots of doglegs and angled greens. A couple approach shots are semi-blind to the green. Since I played the course in the heat of August, the fairways were a bit fuzzy and the greens were aerated about three weeks prior."

“A good public course with many good holes."

“Great layout of a course with a fantastic mix of long and short, right and left. Davis gives wide fairways with enough bunkers to make you think but they aren't hard to avoid either. The greens are huge, so you get penalized for not getting into the right area, but they are firm and true but hold your shots well. A very pleasing course to the eye with a great use of the natural area which is really beautiful."

“Excellent layout but tough to play if you don't select the correct tee. Almost every hole has a carry off the tee, in the fairway, or onto the green. Tough greens to read, Every hole is bordered by trees or water. Fun to play but tough to score."

“Very reminiscent of a Hilton Head course, no two holes were the same with varying short and long par 3s and meandering doglegs in both directions. Nothing man made or eye popping aesthetically was designed into the course but enough of what nature provided was used to build the course around to make it very aesthetically pleasing. The course wasn't overly hard and generous fairways lined with bunkers that can be navigated easily and large greens make it a moderate challenge to a scratch golfer but was a fun course to play for any level of golfer."

“Shell Landing is a very well laid out golf course winding through hilly marshland. Wide fairways, and easily identifiable hazards make it very playable, and fun for everyday play. Tiered, undulating greens give strong shot options, but a few misplaced forced layups detract from the flow of the round, and the course presents itself similarly to many very good courses and would not readily distinguish itself as unique in character."
