“Shot options: Course requires a lot more specifically played shots than shot options, but I like a lot of these required shots. The anxiety can be quite high on this course when there is any wind. ; Hole by Hole comments:Hole #1: Good driving hole, can pick your line to cut off distance for approach. ; Hole #2: Tough drive to look at, looks tight with lots of water/trees. ; Hole #3: Can be tough with wind. ; Hole #4: Wide fairway, but doesn't provide options, as I think was intended. Can bail approach shot to the left, makes hole not that hard. ; Hole #5: Not a great hole, short par 4 where you don't have to think much. ; Hole #6: Very good hole, have to judge a lot off this tee that is up high, and have to figure out which part of pond you can get to. ; Hole #7: Difficult par 3, have to hit good shot. ; Hole #8: Semi-blind tee shot, easy hold if stay right. ; Hole #9: Need good enough drive and approach, but not hard. ; Hole #10: Good shot option off tee, narrow fairway, so driver risks hitting in the junk. ; Hole #11: Almost a great hole, where have to tee off left and hit over ravine to shallow green. Would be great if tee were higher up so could tell how far to hit drive. ; Hole #12: Best hole on the course, need to hit good long drive, then solid long approach to elevated green. ; Hole #13: Really close to a great hole, but need to reconfigure to make it fair. Right now, have to hit hybrid to within 5 yards of pond on left off tee to see green. ; Hole #14: Tight green on this par 3, need precise approach. ; Hole #15: Need precise drive to avoid trouble on both sides. ; Hole #16: Good solid hole, uphill approach; Hole #17: Not much to this hole, short par 3; Hole #18: Good risk/reward par 5. ; : Challenge: With any wind, this course is quite tough. Lots of water and some trees. ; Layout variety: Reasonably good variety, but doesn't stand out. ; Aesthetics: Aesthetics are reasonably good, with plenty of trees, water and hills. Backdrops are ok, could do without the cow manure smell from the farms on multiple sides of this course. ; Conditioning: I played this course in the 90's and the conditions were very good. They have clearly gone downhill in the past, as greens aren't fast or particularly true. The bunkers haven't been well maintained, and I don't like the sand in them. ; Character: It’s a decent representation of midwestern golf with marshes and trees, but multiple other better examples. This course should have better maintenance and would attract golfers that are looking for a test. ; Fun: The fun factor is average at best. My wife didn't particularly like it, and most of my friends that are mid handicappers at best would rather play elsewhere."

“Although a tad rough around the edges "conditioning-wise," this is a solid collection of holes that will tempt and challenge better players while allowing lesser players to enjoy the course as well."

“Great collection of diverse holes. Front side is more open with marshes while the back side is more wooded. The greens were rolling phenomenally the day I was there. Course can play very tough so picking the correct tees is important. Fairways tend to narrow considerably once you pass the 150 stakes which seems to be the main defense as there are many holes without fairway bunkers. On the downside, at 30 years old the course is starting to show its age as invasive grasses have infiltrated and taken over the fairways and the trees are getting overgrown. At an hour south of the cities, I'm sure the course is not getting the traffic it needed to stay a premier public option but the bones are there and it is well worth playing."

“Minnesota, even for having a short golfing season, has some of the best courses in the country. Most of them are private, however. Willingers, about forty-five minutes south of the Twin Cities, is one of the better public courses in the area. It is unpretentious but the course is really good. It is walkable, even for the hilly terrain on which it is routed. At one point it was one of the top 15 courses in the state. It is rarely crowded so the pace of play is excellent. Make the trip it is worth it."
