“Shot options: There are a few great holes that require a very good shot, or give you options (2/8/11/14), but surrounded by a number of ordinary holes or ones that have major issues (3/4/5/6/7/9/10/15/16/18).; Hole by Hole comments:Hole #1: Surprisingly hard tee shot to start round, trouble on both sides, green not hard. ; Hole #2: Very scenic par 3 over river of rushing water.; Hole #3: This hole from back tees requires an absurdly long tee shot to get to the fairway, it needs a bit of grading to make it more fair. 442 yards uphill, plays like 490, very hard. ; Hole #4: Ordinary uphill par 4, not much to it. ; Hole #5: Somewhat difficult sight line off tee, especially for first time player. Not difficyult to go for it in 2 if hit fairway; Hole #6: Fun long big downhill par 4, just need to stay out of the woods; Hole #7: Short par 4 that might seem like it has some risk/reward, but I don't think it does, I think everyone just plays to 100 yards. ; Hole #8: Very good par 3 with great views from elevated tee. ; Hole #9: Ordinary hole, just need to hit it straight enough off tee. ; Hole #10: Solid long par 5, no option to go for it, except by longest players (I am not one of those). ; Hole #11: Very good long par 4, requires long tee shot, otherwise may not be able to cross river to green. ; Hole #12: Nearly 90 degree dogleg requires good enough tee shot. ; Hole #13: Unique hole from visual on tee, narrow green requires solid approach; Hole #14: This hole would benefit from me playing it a few times to figure out what the best tee shot club is, but visual is very good and unique. Green requires a precise approach. ; Hole #15: Shortish downhill par 3 requires proper distance, but not too hard. ; Hole #16: Just need to hit fairway off tee. ; Hole #17: Pretty downhill hole, but somewhat ordinary from a golf perspective. ; Hole #18: Solid but somewhat ordinary hole. ; : Challenge: The challenge comes from the woods and somewhat poor condition of the greens. ; Layout variety: Variety is fine, but not compelling. ; Aesthetics: Backdrops to Lake Superior on a few holes are great, but most other holes are ordinary. ; Conditioning: Greens don't roll all that well, and aren't that fast. Bunker edges are rough, and sand isn't high quality; Character: Other than about 4 holes, a somewhat ordinary northern woods course. ; Fun: Some great views, but golf leaves me wanting."

“I enjoyed the course more than I thought I would. There are lots of forced carries. Poplar River is used as both hazard and backdrop to good effect. Pretty soft conditions during a drought...too much water being used."

“The Mountain nine is waiting for it's update like the other 18 holes. The Mountain is a fine 9 holer to play for a warmup or play a team event (alt shot/2-man scramble)."

“Solid course with some spectacular holes and views. Well worth playing if you get to this "out-of-the-way" location."
