“Prout's Neck is the most reclusive golf course in Maine, and I almost feel I am violating confidence by entering comments! Access to Prout's has a quirk though, as guests of the adjacent and pricey Black Point Inn can play the course on certain days. The course has everything the golf aficionado can ask for, holes along a sandy dune ridge, holes with long marsh views, firm conditions that promote running approach shots, and gorgeous bunkering that often bleeds into natural areas. Tom Doak and Bruce Hepner have been recent stewards of the property, and the course has never played better. The yardage on the card is not long at about 6300 yards, but the par is a tidy 70, and you have to pay more attention here to where your ball lands than almost every course on this side of the Atlantic. For me this is the best golf course in Maine, a coveted invitation for sure, or well worth a splurge at the Inn."
