Overview
This is a favorite among our Golf Digest panelists, who say Houston Oaks is perhaps the best public option in the state, when considering the value (tee times are $60 with a cart on the weekend), the always-solid conditioning and the beautiful scenery. Built on an old horse farm in beautiful Paris, Ky., Houston Oaks was designed by a lesser-known architect, Jack Ridge, but you should put it on your radar.

Review
“For the money, this is the best conditioned and fun course in Kentucky for the money. It is an affordable option that may be best public course in the state. The course was built on an old horse farm. The drive to get to Houston Oaks goes through some of the most beautiful horse racing farms in the state. When you arrive, the bent grass greens and fairways are always in great shape. It is a course that you can score on, but you must be accurate and putt well. Go to this course, you will not regret making the drive from Lexington."
