“With the course name, Purgatory along with holes titled “Everlasting Torment,” “Sweet Misery” and “Hells Half Acre” most players know what they’re in for. The layout is demanding, requires precision, placement and presents a strong challenge. That said, the course is enjoyable and very unique to the area. With a countryside layout north of Indianapolis, mounding, native grass and the unique design can provide a serene experience that’s both beautiful and difficult. The greens are very undulated with surfaces that play firm, fast and true. While landing areas can be narrow there are endless shot options with greens and fairways protected by bunkering, rough, native grass and closely mown collection areas. The holes can vary significantly with each presenting differentiating demands. Further, the course can stretch to 7,754 yards. With seven tee boxes the layout can vary dramatically with unique configurations in layout, including the fairways, greens and general design."

“Excellent design with a great variety holes. Nice mix of risk, reward opportunities, and overall a very solid layout. Staff was great, and the conditioning of the course was excellent Nice short game, practice area as well as an excellent practice range Strongly recommend if you’re in the Indianapolis area to add this to your itinerary!"

“A public course that looks and plays like a Scottish links course with sand everywhere. a fun course with many good holes."

“Very cool theme with the purgatory. This is a great example of how a little creativity and marketing can go a long way toward elevating a golf experience. Conditoning here left quite a bit to be desired, but this is a very attractive golf opportunity at a very fair price point (85 dollars on weekend) and something that a lot of other public courses could take a page from. Design variety also got a bit monotonous on the back, but certainly some really cool holes, including the par 3 17 and par 5 18th along with a really cool green complex on the par 5 13th."

“Happened to catch this course a few days after the State Amateur of Indiana was contested. Can play over 7700 yards from the back tees, but is very fair when one selects the right tees for their game due to the width of fairways and the large green complexes. Some holes seemingly have bunkers as far as the eye can see. Didn't seem to be a signature hole or standout holes but at the same time no week holes or overly quirky holes. Layout variety suffers a bit due to no short or long par 3's...or no short par 3's or short par 5's."
