“I had fun playing Stonewall Orchard for the first time. However, the course includes a number of blind tee shots and second shots, seven by my count, making your first round there a challenge as you don't always know where to go or the true yardage based on varying elevations. Those variables certainly impacted the shot options and challenge. Perhaps the best hole on the property is the 16th as it offers numerous shot options and a risk-reward option from the tee. There is a good balance within layout variety, though the course reflects a preference for uphill and straight holes, as well as short par 4s. Conditioning was a bit soft and lush. Tee shots and approaches landed close to their ballmarks without much roll out. The greens were in great shape, especially for a public course which gets a lot of play. Aesthetics are great. The course is isolated with views consisting of the surrounding holes. The course is entirely focused on golf, earning it high marks for character."

“Stonewall Orchard offers a strong test of golf that moves the golfer through marshland, prairie and woods. The golf course gives the player options and rewards taking on more risk from the tee - typically with a less demanding approach or a better angle into the green. While not an especially long golf course, Stonewall Orchard requires the player to think about each shot they play to ensure that an appropriate shot is played. Some of the holes with strong shot options were the par 4 2nd hole, which invites the player to play closer to the hazard for a better angle and shorter distance on the 2nd shot, par 5 3rd hole which is shorter and reachable for better players but has trouble around the green, par 4 4th hole is a shorter reachable par 4 which invites players to try to drive it close to the green but must stay left of the water down the right side, par 5 8th hole which rewards a drive down the left side that requires a longer cover with a shorter approach and better angle into the green, par 4 12th and 16th offers a longer player with the option to try to drive it close to the green or lay back off the tee and finally the par 5 18th hole requires the player come in from the left side to have a shot a holding the green on their third shot. Coming in from the right side gives the player a tough approach into a green that runs away from them, into the water."

“An Arthur Hills layout winding though forests and protected wetlands. A challenging par 72 course with many long forced carries of these marshes. A great set of long par 3's, and a long 600 yd challenging par 5, 18th, that ranks up as one of the best finishing holes in the area. Some options off the tee, make creative shot making a must on this course. the conditioning was a little shotty on my visit, with a couple of burned out green patches, and collars that could use some seeding. 4 different tee boxes make this available to all skills, however, these forced carries from all tee boxes make it a real challenge."

“Pleasant course that wanders nicely between woodlands and wetlands. Abundant wildlife. A few forced carries will unduly vex lesser players, but generally fun and playable."

“Nice public course with no homes on course. Mostly flat but built lakes and elevated greens and fairways. Good condition. Good course in area of Chicago with many good public courses."
