Overview
Back in 1986 when it opened, Pine Meadow won our Best New Public Course award. Today, this northern Illinois layout continues to provide intriguing design variety at a reasonable rate. The well-bunkered track (there are 86 in total) opens with a playable front nine followed by a more challenging back nine with water and elevation changes. The course was formerly ranked on our 100 Greatest Public list, reaching as high as No. 28 in 2003-2004.

“Move this away from Chicagoland and it would be the best course for miles."

“This course appears as a parkland style golf course, with an older style clubhouse that you would expect at a club that only entails golf. It offers a mix of some challenging holes where you have to navigate water and wetlands, five holes with water, and some from the tips can offer a challenge even to the better golfer. Overall, the par 5's are not too difficult and allow opportunities for birdies and there is a good mix of short par 4's and a few long ones, like hole three that tips out at 492 yards. The general course conditions are good, but I would expect a course with this layout and reputation would have better overall conditions from tee to green."

“Excellent public golf option with two completely different 9’s front and back. Front 9 is a warm up until you hit the back with lots of water, elevation changes and design variety throughout."

“Excellent layout and good conditions. Design offers challenges but several holes are fairly easy to allow for scoring."
