Overview
This challenging western Illinois public course sits just south of the Quad Cities and was designed by the Nicklaus Design firm. Many holes play along the scenic Fyre Lake and others play up on the hillside overlooking the lake. With plenty of elevation change, the course can be a strenuous walk.

“A pleasure to play. The course had a nice variety of holes with various lengths, elevations and direction. The greens were extremely difficult and undulating creating difficult opportunities to make birdies. The conditions when I played were not great with a couple fairways experiencing turf loss. I attribute it to the difficult summer in Illinois with rain and heat. Overall, a great course which will certainly test your abilities."

“Fyre Lake was a pleasure to play. I particularly enjoyed the diversity of layout with a variety of hole lengths, elevations, and configurations. While some holes were wide open from the tee, the approach became more challenging. Others were harder from the tee, but easier on approach. The course designer, Jack Nicklaus, also does not call for the driver on every hole. There is a heightened sense of strategy which the player can employ on certain holes, whether from the tee or on approach. I enjoyed the challenge in trying to figure out where to go and what club to use in that effort. Conditions were rough as the significant amount of water and heat in Illinois this summer caused dead shots throughout the fairways. Chipping around the greens was a challenge as the fringes had also been flooded and the baked out. While the green speeds were good and the roll true, they too had troubles in spots. The rough was lush and thick, but entirely playable. The front 9 has not been developed with houses in the same way as the back nine. That made it more aesthetically pleasing. However, the property was still gorgeous. Character marks are high as the facility is entirely about golf; particularly as it is predicted to move to a stay-and-play format in the future."

“Hilly course with a few lakeside holes. Excellent tricky greens, but conditioning only fair elsewhere."

“This course is in the middle of no where and worth the drive. Layout is a great test of golf. Conditions were excellent. They do need to add some water stations or coolers to the carts or let players know that its only available at the turn. Will return for sure."

“Fyre Lake is worth the drive. Hole variety is great as well as the elevation changes. Greens are unique as the don't have a fringe. It just goes from putting surface to 3 inch rough. Makes for some tricky chips. Layout is right in front of you with no blind shots."

“Impressive topography on this western Illinois Nicklaus design. Good routing amidst rolling hills, providing some significant elevation changes for the area. Variety of length on the holes, and often times different shot options encouraged. Course was heavily saturated to protect from warmer late summer, which provided some hole locations to play with, on what could be an extremely daunting set of undulating greens under firmer and faster conditioning."

“This Nicklaus design, owned and restored by PGA Pro Mark Krizic and his wife Alyssa, has been rejuvenated after years of neglect. The course presents a challenging layout that winds through a rolling property and excellent conditioning. A bit off the beaten path, but definitely worth the effort."

“Has to be one of the best values I've ever seen! Some really fun holes along Fyre Lake and surprising elevation changes for the area. Bunkering was beautiful, unlike any Nicklaus Course one will play...a rugged and natural look that framed holes in a picturesque way. Very interesting green complexes, somewhat reminiscent of what you might see at Sweetens Cove or Kingsley w/ the green contours. Course went through bankruptcy 2x, and sat idle for 1.5 years w/ no mowing....amazing they didn't have to regrass anything w/ the condition the course currently is in"
