Overview
Beverly Country Club is a classic Midwest championship golf course on the South Side of Chicago. Donald Ross expertly utilized a prehistoric glacial ridgeline on the front nine, where the ridge influences all but two holes (the fourth and ninth). The holes with the greatest impact are the second and sixth, with a huge elevation changes moving from tee to green, and the fifth and seventh, which both march up the ridge, plus the greens at the first and eighth holes. To have utilized the ridge on almost the entirety of the front nine was genius. The rolling terrain on the back nine, across 87th Street, is also stunning—exemplified by a significant tree removal program by Tyler Rae—allowing the property’s landforms to shine like it was intended.

“Beverly is a wonderful classic Ross course reminiscent of his best on the East Coast. Thoughtful stewardship has brought the details back to life at this historic layout, and this is one of the best golf courses in the Chicagoland area."

“The front and back nine are separated by 87th Street but also differ in terrain type. The front 9, on the north end of the property has a ridge that bisects it. Several holes play either up or down the ridge but the land at the top and at the bottom is mostly flat. The terrain on the back nine has much more of a rolling feel. What both nines share are holes that predominantly run north/south and lead to interesting and varied green complexes, with notably large, yawning bunkers. Many of the greens have short grass surrounds on one or more sides, and the firm conditions offer a multitude of short game options."

“Fantastic golf course with good mix of variety, conditioning, and rare undulation in a brilliant routing in Chicago. Conditioning of greens and fairways are exceptional."

“A very unique Ross design. The course is situated between a railroad track and a bisecting street. It never feels cramped though. The first has an infinity green that is unlike anything I have ever seen in the stark middle of the plot. Ross uses a ridge in the property line quite well. I liked the back a touch more. The par threes were really good. I loved the 14th hole, and the 16th green site is devilishly situated into a hillside. "

“The course certainly eases you into its test, as 1 & 2 both offer up excellent opportunity for birdies, and then as the round progresses the test increases. The last four holes is a strong test to come down the stretch and finish off a round. The green complexes are some of the most challenging I've ever seen, but they don't play unfairly. They offer a chance of recovery in almost every instance, and force you to get creative with the short game approaches and plot out the best line to the hole. You could chip and putt for hours out on that course. That feeling extends to the approaches, as you are forced to think about where an appropriate miss would be while trying to get your ball to the proper plateau or punchbowl on the approach. The one shotters are a great collection of Par 3's, each requiring a different club/shot off the tee."

“Love the redo with all of the trees gone. Very beautiful to stand on top of the hill on #1 and look out over the valley. Back 9 is difficult and love the green contouring and the chipping areas. One of the best in the Chicago area."

“Course has a very urban and "loud" feel, being next to a railroad, major roads, and the flight path to MDW. Course is about as good as it can be on a relatively bland property separated into two parcels."

“A classic golf course with a surprisingly good amount of elevation change throughout the property. A large ridge dominates a portion of the course that golfers must play across several times. Warm and friendly atmosphere."
