Overview
Situated on the Big Island’s northwest coast, Mauna Lani’s North course is one of two layouts at the resort. The North plays over a lava bed, with charcoal-black rocks framing many of the holes, giving the course a distinct feel that at times resembles a desert-style design. Though the course is predominantly routed through a housing community, there are a few scenic views of the nearby Pacific Ocean. The par-3 17th sits in a natural lava amphitheater and is one of the more unique holes on property, with towering piles of rocks surrounding the green.

“This Robin Nelson design winds through the lava fields and provides some nice ocean views on a few holes. Hole #17 is a unique hole that plays down into a lava amphitheater. Always windy conditions on the Kona side of the Big Island. Good playing conditions and a welcoming staff made for a nice day on the course. Worth playing this one if you're in the area."

“Not a lot of architectural merit at Mauna Lani's North Course. Some of the green complexes possess interest and the lava flows that the course winds through can be beautiful at times. However, the lack of shot options really holds this course back on a lot of holes. It's essentially a housing tract course with a couple of glimpses of the Pacific."

“Not as fun as the neighboring South Course but perhaps the higher quality shot-makers course - with the same high quality conditioning."

“North Course if more inland and more difficult than the South Course."

“Each of the courses at Mauna Lani have some very distinct and challenging holes. That does not make up for the rest of the average holes on the course."

“A good resort course that has a variety of holes that play through the condos and along the coast line. The staff was reasonable, although not as friendly as some of the other resorts in Hawaii."
