Overview
Aileron is the former Kingsway Country Club, now the key attraction at the new Sunseeker Resort near Port Charlotte, north of Ft. Myers. The course was originally built in 1972 by Ron Garl the prince of golf design in southwest Florida. In 2023, Kipp Schulties, another architect who has been equally prolific in the southern part of the state, remodeled the newly rebranded course. The design plays into the resort demographic and wants to emphasize fun, strong conditioning and recoverability, though care must be taken to avoid water that comes into play on 16 holes.

“Very nice course - recently renovated. Plenty of width but not a lot of strategic options or variety in recovery options. Greens were very nice. Bunkering lacked character and variety."

“Aileron continues to enhance the golfing experience by providing outstanding course conditioning on a well conceived design. The course provides a good mix of holes offering a challenging and enjoyable test of golf to guests of all ability levels. The round is only enhanced by the landscaping features throughout the course. Fairways were firm and fast and the greens roll true."

“Aileron Golf Club conditioning was good. Fairways were firm and fast, greens held a good shot and putted true. Shot options were plentiful with collection areas around the greens and varied shots into the greens. Layout variety was just OK with several similar holes. The golf course was fair and not overly challenging. We enjoyed the course and would go back to play again."

“Aileron is in excellent condition with water in play on 13 of the holes, so you'll need to choose wisely off the tee. The greens were firm, fast, and true with contours that can make it hard to get up and down. Currently, a true resort course that is part of Sunseeker Resort just a few miles away."

“Aileron was in excellent shape and required strategic thinking off the tee due to the amount of water in play (only 5 holes without water). There was a good mix between holes with low reward, which led to a hybrid/4-iron tee shot, and holes where driver was warranted to leave you with short-irons into the trickier greens. The greens used contours to force you to evaluate where to miss and were firm with a true roll."

“A very playable straightforward resort course. The layout variety is limited on a flat piece of property and most holes offer few shot options that aren't right in front of you. The course does offer a good challenge from the championship tees and the conditioning was outstanding. A nice golf course that I would not go out of my was to play."

“The Aileron Golf Club located in Lake Suzy, on the Central Western Coast of Florida is part of the Sunseeker Resort owned by Allegiant Airlines. It's play is relegated to guests of the resort as well as a limited number of members and thus generally allows for rounds that can be completed within four hours. The course, previously named Kingsway and originally designed by Ron Gari, was reopened in December, 2023 under the Aileron name after a thorough redo by Kip Schulties. While the course spans over 7200 yards, the five tee boxes allow for a challenging round for all levels of golfers. This well conditioned layout is relatively flat with water hazards coming into play on most holes. The fairways are fairly wide allowing the golfer to hit away on the drive. Fairly large greens provide ample targets for second shots. The greens run very true and their gentle slopes provide for a generally "fun" putting experience. With few trees on the course and a relatively flat layout, the golfer is provided broad vistas which help to enhance the aesthetics of the course. Notably the third hole is labelled Florida's longest par 5 at 664 yards. The back nine presents some increased challenges and includes three consecutive holes (14, 15 and 16) named the "Tailspin". Overall, by navigating the various water hazards, the golfer can score well on what is a relatively well conditioned golf friendly layout that plays very fair."

“Aileron Golf Club located in Lake Suzy Florida is built on the old Kingsway CC course. The course is part of a new Sunseeker Resort that opened in December 2023. Kipp Schulties redesigned the property that runs along a busy road however the road noise wasn’t as loud as anticipated. The course is in fantastic shape, firm & fast. With little play you feel like you are on your own personal golf course. As expected the terrain is very flat, the front 9 features mostly straight holes with wide landing areas & random bunkers that don’t crowd the fairway. Approach shots are straightforward, very few forced carry’s to greens. The green side bunkers are flat & not on top of the greens. The greens are smaller & circular with plenty of options for recovery. The back 9 is also flat with generous fairways but with more doglegs that enhance the flow. Still not very demanding off the tee but more opportunities worth challenging the bunkers. Par 5 #15 provides a worthy risk/reward to reach in 2. Length is definitely necessary off the tee to consider a go with a bunker & water right. The greens are more narrow & rectangular than the front but plenty of options for any greens missed with consistent conditioning to the front. The finishing holes are underwhelming, straightforward & average length & look. While new, Aileron makes the effort to provide a beautiful setting that’s not overly demanding. A resort course that wants guests to have an enjoyable day on the links. Frozen apples on the front & frozen oranges on the back is a nice touch. While beautiful & in solid shape this could become somewhat boring if playing everyday."
