“Desert resort course designed by Arnold Palmer in La Quinta, CA located at the base of, and playing along, the Santa Rosa mountain range. Course served as the home of the Bob Hope Classic from 2008 - 2011. While the course is relatively flat, there is a good diversification of long and short holes dog legging both right and left. Water comes into play on 10 of the 18 holes making club selection and accuracy key components to scoring. Fairways were firm and hard with well placed bunkering both along the fairways and greens. Greens putted true albeit contours and ridges sometimes complicated reading the putts correctly. Several herds of big horn sheep were viewed while playing the course which combined with the adjacent mountain range and desert vistas / floral make the course aesthetically pleasing to play as well. However, the back nine has been reconfigured to accommodate the construction of a hotel and homes. At such it is somewhat disjointed and does not flow well from tee to green especially the last three holes. Additionally, several "old" holes are being left to return to the desert naturally thus detracting from the overall aesthetics of the course. Overall, the course was fun to play and resulted in an enjoyable round of golf."
