“Situated in a beautiful valley pretty far away from civilization which is unusual in California. It is a residential property but the homes do not deter from the golf course and it is easily walkable with a couple of good climbs leading to several picturesque elevated tee shots. RTJ Jr. built a challenging course with lots of bunkers and mostly push up greens which make the course play longer and which require an aerial assault. Best to play it in the winter months as it gets very beaten up in mid to late summer."

“Apparently late summer takes its toll at Pauma which is apparent especially in the fairways. The greens have a lot of interest and subtle movement and when the speed is up present quite a challenge. The best time to play it is in the winter months. The front nine is rather mundane until you get to the 8th and 9th holes which are quite good . The back nine is much better with several nice climbs and picturesque elevated tee shots. The course plays much longer as every green is pushed up and there are lots of bunkers making high lofted shots a must. It is situated in a beautiful valley with surrounding peaks that are over 6000 feet. Not your typical southern California setting."

“I have not played this prior to remodel. The green structures are outstanding. There are some very challenging pin placements near all portions of the greens. A couple of holes feel jammed in but ultimately a well designed course that requires accuracy."

“PVCC is an older course that came into the SoCal area back in 1960. The RTJ design feels old especially with only (1) water hole on the course. The day that I played with a member, the fairways were very inconsistent due to heavy watering. PVCC likes to show off BIG GREEN fairways & rough regardless of how it effects the play. This was my second time playing the course which made it a bit more fun. The course has some tricky shots that require insider knowledge. The greens are maintained at a slower speed for the members (most of which are 55+ years old), but they do roll true once you adjust to the fuzzy-speed. PVCC is a retirement / C.C. parkland-style course that the members seem to love. It fits in nicely to the area, but is desperately in need of a total course restoration."

“A hidden gem off the beaten path but worth the effort to find. Robert Trent Jones Sr design that is a terrific golf course. A very nice collection of holes, fairways and greens (which are very large) that are well protected by nice bunkering. Greens are huge and provide many different pin positions and different looks. Routing is nice, very pretty location in a valley in the north eastern part of San Diego County. A must play if in the area."
