Overview
This Arnold Palmer-designed layout used to be in the rotation for the Bob Hope tour event. Water comes into play on 14 of the 18 holes, and many holes have fairways that slope toward the water hazards, so driving the ball is at a premium. The facilities are top-notch at this Troon-managed club—including a 63,000-square foot, three-floor Tuscan-inspired clubhouse.

“Beautiful layout and unique for the area. No palm trees on a course in Palm Spings. Challenging holes and angles demand precise tee to green ball striking."

“If you like courses with water hazards, then play the Classic Club, which has water on 13 of the 18 holes."

“The Classic Club is a typical Troon-managed 'resort style" of public golf course located off the main freeway (I-10) in the Palm Desert area. This location is subject to the local winds that will play a huge roll in the type of day you will have on the course. Lushly green and very player friendly, this golf course tries hard to cater to the weekend / tourist golfer that is looking for a fun golf experience. The course is fairly straight forward with shot options off the tee into the green designed to enhance the enjoyment factor more so than a challenge. This year the course has received much more rain than usual resulting in very lush fairways and roughs. The greens are receptive and roll true but are kept slower than I expected. Being a Palmer design, this course delivers a nice layout variety with solid desert aesthetics. The challenge from the back tees is always measured by the daily winds, but on a calm day, the course is "gettable". A fun place to play but expect it to be a slower than normal round due to the tourist-friendly nature and pricing."

“Arnold Palmer desert design that previously hosted PGA tour event. Well-conditioned course with smooth and true rolling greens. Always fun to play on a course the pros played on to see how your game measures up."

“Located in Palm Desert, Arnold Palmer Signature course. The area has a tendency to get windy. The fairways are generous, and there are a number of water hazards on many of the holes. The course is in very good condition and the service is excellent. A good challenge for all levels of players"

“The routing of this course moves holes in a variety of directions that requires a player to take particular note of the wind. The design took into account the fact that the wind blows regularly which is reflected in a layout that includes variability in hole lengths and direction. The par 5's are a particular strength. Seasonal winds will blow from left to right and right to left all of these holes. The layup areas are guarded by water or bunkers which requires accuracy in length and placement. Opportunities to go for each of these greens will reward a well-placed shot and make up and downs challenging. One of the strongest features of this course is the variability in size, shape and placement of the greens. Placing your ball in the right part of the fairway opens up many of the greens. The location of this course is on terrain that is largely flat. The contours of the course had to be created by moving dirt. Thus the weakness of this course is the aesthetics."

“Great Arnold Palmer design. Good conditions with fast and firm fairways and receptive greens. A nice variety of approach shots can be used and the fairways are pretty generous. Number 18 is a great finishing hole with a fantastic risk/reward option."

“A challenging course with very good variety in a flat desert setting. It can be windy which makes it much more difficult. It can be very enjoyable from the right tees for your game."
