“If you get this invitation, 100% do not turn it down. A special, special spot in the heart of the OC."

“Big Canyon is a private club located behind the Fashion Island shopping center in Newport Beach. Built around some expensive homes, it feels as if the course was shoe-horned in AFTER the homes were already placed. The course layout is pretty average (in my opinion), and the desire to walk the course is frowned upon by the management due to pace-of-play time constraints. The conditioning of the course was good but the challenge / distinctiveness leaves a lot to be desired. Fairways & greens were inconsistent (firmness & speeds), and the bunkering lacks any real plan as to why Mr. Harbottle chose the locations that he did. Speaking with numerous members, the club has entered into a contract with a new golf course architect to help "reinvent" the course. It should be money WELL SPENT."

“The layout has many holes that will stick with you, namely the 8th, 9th, 10th, 15th, 16th, and 17th. Conditioning is usually top-notch after recently (2016) re-sodding the rough with Bermuda. The course is more difficult than at first glance. Recent U.S. Open Sectional qualifiers have had scoring averages over par. Close to the ocean, but no views of the water as the course sits down in the canyons. There are numerous holes with OB left and right as they wind through the canyons - some of the holes have homes in play. Try not to ding the Ferraris in the parking lot!"

“Ambiance of this country club is very stuffy, and not too friendly. Was definitely not a place I wanted to stay after for the 19TH hole or to grab some lunch"
