Overview
William “Billy” Bell—designer of Torrey Pines and a slew of other notable California courses—delivered the original layout at Maryvale Golf Course, which is now Grand Canyon University Golf Course. A recent John Fought redesign added new tee boxes, extended fairways and enhanced bunkers to recapture the nostalgic beauty of the historic course. Now owned and operated by the City of Phoenix, the course is a traditional parkland layout with contoured fairways and strategically placed bunkers.

“Very playable layout for all levels of players. Very flat course, with too little variety between holes. Good condition for extremely hot Arizona summer."

“Fairly straight forward and traditional municipal layout with many parallel holes. What you see is what you get."

“Considering the property available (a basically flat lot on a square urban parcel), the golf course is surprisingly challenging. The design makes good use of the available minor elevation changes with well-placed bunkers. But this is pure urban golf, so don't play here if 4 hours of emergency sirens tends to bother you. You need to work to shoot a good score here, as the course is deceptively hard. Not worth a special trip, but fine if you are in the area."

“Very nice course. A classic Bell design. I was very impressed with layout and condition. Looking forward to my next round"

“A really good layout and when it is in good condition it is definitely a diamond in the rough. However, 7 minutes between tee times typically overcrowds the course and pace of play can be an issue here."

“This course was recently acquired by the university and used to be the Marysville Golf Course. It is a flat traditional parkland layout with few trees dividing the fairways. A lot of challenging holes with big bunkers. It was in good condition when I played it. This course will appeal to all handicap levels. I enjoyed my day here."
